The mothership has landed for Art Basel’s twelfth year in Miami Beach, officially beginning the annual art-a-palooza that has unofficially been ragging since Monday anyways. Today they let the press, collectors, and hoity-toity VIP types in, and tomorrow the floodgates will open for everyone willing to pay almost as much as a day ticket to Disney World costs. The people watching is, of course, fabulous. At Sean Kelly Gallery’s booth, a swarm of collectors and wannabe collectors was seen trying to get into a closet where, rumor was, the best stuff was hidden. If anything so far, it’s been real.
