Gables Ponce, a Mediterranean Revival mixed-use, urban infill apartment rental project, opened a few months ago across the street from the Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables and a few blocks away from the Douglas Road Metrorail Station. The building includes an Epicure Market on the ground floor, a pool in the courtyard, a ‘Sports and Games’ room, and a 3,200 square gym among its residential amenities It has a similar look to Merrick Park, and that other nearby project in development Merrick Manor, with its colonnaded sidewalks, ground-floor retail, central courtyard, and generally urban disposition. The 248 apartments range from about $2,000-$3,750 per month. Looking at the big picture, a few more buildings like this, and bada-bing, bada-boom, you’ve got yourself a transit-oriented Mediterranean Revival mini downtown. Hey hey.
