Miami Beach Launches a Water Taxi
Are you among the many people dealing with weekend traffic woes when trying to visit Downtown Miami on the weekends? Bottleneck traffic remains a major concern and both cities are always on the lookout for new solutions to try and alleviate the situation for residents and tourists. Thanks to a new water taxi, the traffic problem might not go away entirely, but it should certainly help make transportation a little easier.
The Miami Beach City Commission recently gave the okay to launch a pilot water taxi program that will allow commuters another way visit Downtown Miami. The water taxi will be operating out of Purdy Avenue Dock through the weekend and will be stopping at Bayside Marketplace, the Miami Beach Marina, and Sea Isle Marina. It will be operating from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and it will cost $30 for a roundtrip or $15 for a one way trip. There will also be a monthly pass available for $95 or a $295 annual pass.
Water taxis are becoming an increasingly common way to get around and are being adopted around the United States, especially in coastal cities. Whether the pilot program will extend beyond the year remains to be seen, but it should ease the traffic situation.
