Miami Beach Welcomes New World Center

Miami is steadily continuing its economic revival, with brand-new luxury hotels and other businesses springing up from downtown to the beaches. One of the latest additions is The New World Center in Miami Beach, the new $160 million home to the New World Symphony Orchestra.

As an epicenter for the arts, Miami welcomes this impressive 100,641-square foot architectural masterpiece, with brilliantly designed acoustics. The new concert hall, which will hold its Grand Opening ceremony tonight at 6 p.m., houses a 756-seat concert hall, rehearsal rooms, a music library, a rooftop garden, the Knight New Media Center and the Sun Trust Pavilion, a rehearsal and meeting room. The building was wired with 17 miles of fiber-optic cables and equipped with high-definition cameras throughout, designed as a fully-interactive laboratory in order to offer remote coaching to orchestral fellows. The New World Center was a collaborative effort between world-famous architect Frank Gehry and Yasuhisa Toyota, world-famous acoustician. The Miami Beach SoundScape, located in front of the building, is a 2.5-acre park designed by Dutch firm West 8, and is wired to broadcast the music produced inside the building.
