The new residential developments set to reshape Miami’s skyline

After turbulent times during the worldwide economic crisis, the Miami real estate market has been picking up fast. In fact, judging by the slew of high-end projects currently in design or construction phase in the city, it seems more apt to describe it as booming.

International architecture big guns including Herzog & de Meuron, Zaha Hadid, Foster + Partners and John Pawson have been drafted in by legendary developers like Jorge Perez, Alan Faena, Ian Schrager and their peers, to virtually compete to create the most striking residential complex in town. Their new landmarks will add to the city’s existing design credentials, such its famous Art Deco buildings and annual international fairs, like Design Miami and Art Basel Miami Beach.

The growing construction frenzy will see several state-of-the-art seaside condos rising thick and fast in the next few years, with at least 10 new high profile developments scheduled to reach completion by the end of 2015.

In the meantime, ongoing public building work in Miami will add several new cultural destinations and infrastructure projects to the city’s already rich agenda. Projects include the Perez Art Museum by Herzog & de Meuron, the Collins Park Garage by Zaha Hadid, the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science by Grimshaw Architects and the new Faena districtfeaturing designs by OMA.
